Toilet Humor.... Photos from Japan

Well that is what I think of my photographs at least..... check em out. I call this toilet humor. A mix of the beauty and the piss of Tokyo. Toilights Everyone here works late into the night, except me unless I have too. Here is another pic of from one of the nights when I did have too. Tokyo Nights A comforting thought is that on a really clear day you can see Mt.Fuji from my office. It comforts me because Eric's school is right at the base of Fuji. So if I can see it he can too. Comfort Here is a pic of me at work in the data center as you can see the camera catches the anomaly of my soul slowly and quietly slipping away. Soul Slippin Away A great shot I took of Eric just outside of my office. Eric in the Light A sign reminding Japanese men not to grab womens asses on the train..... WTF? Or it could be a picture telling you not to take your friends hand and put it on a womans ass.... you decide. Hands Off! I took the train to Tokyo early one Monday morning and got this shot. Morning Train Finally I found I can freeze time, or at least catch water droplets in the air. Freeze Time You can VOTE! for your favorite here. Let's see which one you think is best!

New Technology

Yo! so in the new technology spotlight we have this little number. Really there is nothing revolutionary about it except for it is in Japan. What is it you ask? Well it is a semi-useless map of Shibuya well in English anyways. It list's places to use the restroom, some of the bigger department stores and the train lines but nothing of real use. I am willing to bet there are a PLETHORA of features in Japanese. Who can blame them, I mean we have stuff like that in America and when was the last time you saw it in something else besides English. Here is my Buddy Bawdo using it. We go to lunch most Tuesdays and he was the one who pointed it out and demonstrated its uselessness! Good on ya Mate!

Kuma-chan Kawaiso

Satomi mailed me on Thursday that Kuma-chan our cat, had been in a fight and had a BIG BITE on his tail. I was unfaded. Kuma still thinks he is the king pimp of the neighborhood, but he is almost 10 I think that is almost 50 in cat years. Recently he has been in a number of scraps with neighborhood cats and has had to see the vet. I like to think that the other cats have had some problems too. Friday I got home and took a look. There was a big bandage and I didn't want to open it but he did have a big heavy Elizabeth collar on to keep him from messing with his tail Saturday morning I woke up and Eric and I got our hair cut while Satomi took Kuma to the vet to have his bandages changed. Again I did not see the wound and niether did Satomi. Sunday morning I heard some noise around 830 and ignored it in favor of more sleep. Around 900 or so I got up to the sound of more banging around. I came down stairs to see Kuma out of his collar cleaning himself. He was licking his body and his paws and rubbing them against his head. Cats are very clean animals by nature so I was not surprised he was busy cleaning himself and thought ...... it would be nice to have a shower after a couple of days w/o one. I turned to check out some of Erics toys and POOF he was gone. Kuma now unencumbered by the collar took the opportunity to escape. He ran upstairs and ran into Eric's room where I had been sleeping and hid in the futon closet. Then when Eric and I walked in and looked for him, Kuma scooted out the door behind us and down the stairs. Eric and I searched the downstairs a handful of times and could not find him. Finally Satomi called out that she found him and he was coming down the stairs. I caught him and put his collar back on but it was too late the pain from his wound had made him so crazy he wanted to chew off his own tail. He had bit his tail a number of times and it was now bleeding allot. I scooped him into the cage and in a rush grabbed Eric and we took him to the vet. I was relived to bring Eric cause when we arrived Eric explained what happened to the cat and why we needed help in Japanese for me. It was really comical as I stood there and tried to explain what happened and the vet looked at me with a puzzled look, only to finally to turn to my 5 year old son and have him explain it in about 5 seconds. ERRRRR I love Japan. Eric played with some free kittens in a case for a bit till we were called into the room to have Kuma-chan examined. Kuma had chewed new holes in his tail. I asked the vet and she confirmed that cats tails are like peoples heads the smallest cut will cause a lot of blood. So the Vet was not surprised by the blood coming from his tail. then she cut away the bandages to rewrap everything since we were there. I was shocked to sam the least by the extent of the wound on poor Kuma-chans tail. Here are the pics of the initial damage to poor Kuma-chans tail. When I looked at it I could not believe that a single cat no matter how big had done that. I think it looked more like a raccoon or as we would call them her in Japan Tanoki. Here are some pics of his bite. What do you think? Kumas tail Either way I brought him home and was not shocked when he wanted to get outside. I figured he wanted to take a piss or shit in private. I followed him and I figure this would have been no problem except Eric followed. While I was trying to tell Eric to go home and let me take care of Kuma, Eric insisted on stay and did to the point he spooked Kuma and he ran away so fast I could not keep up. Eric and I spent the next 2 hours trying to catch up with Kuma and almost caught him a couple of times, most notably was when Eric crawled into a small space behind the neighbors shack and grabbed Kuma. The action scared Kuma and he began hissing and scratching which scared Eric and he had to let Kuma go. I can't blame him I was surprised he held on to him as long as he did. I wanted to wait for Kuma to come out. I wanted to be there to open the door when he came home but I had not eaten all day and I went to lunch. I know I am a piece of shit pet-owner but I also know "cats are smart" they will come home when they are ready. Sure enough 2 hours later when Satomi arrived home there was Kuma-chan on the porch waiting. Kuma's collar and bandaged tail. Here are some shots of Eric and Miku feeding Kuma-chan by hand.

Un-event

Eric's birthday is today. I feel so bad for him. I think I am the only one in his family who knows how to celebrate any thing. I wanted to rent my friends bar for the afternoon and play games, eat cake and ice cream and sing happy birthday with all of his friends..... and next year I will! Instead Saturday night Satomi, Eric and I went to a restaurant for dinner we ate and picked up an ice cream cake. Then went home. We put candles on the cake sang a quick "Happy Birthday" and then everyone returned to smoking cigarettes and watching FUCKING JAPANESE VOLLEYBALL on TV while Eric Miku and I opened his presents in the corner. After that the three of us went upstairs and played with the toys. My parents had a good size house when I was a kid and they always tried their best to make me happy, I think. When I (or my brother or sister) had a birthday they decorated the house, made a cake and cooked my favorite food for dinner and invited all of our relatives over. I don't mean about my parents giving me TOYS either cause I am honestly hard pressed to remember a birthday when I got something I really wanted, but it wasn't about that. My parents made that day mine and made me feel special. Sure there were bad times during those days like when the 2 friends my mom allowed me to invite from school did not come after they said they would. I have tried as hard as I can to impress upon my wife and her family the significance attached for Americans to their Birthday. One would think that after the SUPRISE party I threw for my wife 2 years ago that the point would sink in. Wrong. I thought I was stubborn and un-accepting of others ways. But they just seem to be ignorant. Everything I say in English or Japanese is dismissed almost immediately. Whats worst is the most dismissive person of all is Satomi. Eric's Mother. I know it might be unfair to try to get her to go against how she was raised, but come on there are ALLOT of things I was raised to believe in, that I don't any more just cause I have been around the world and seen things differently. On top of that Eric's first birthday was at our house in America and she saw how much fun it was when everyone got together for a birthday. I don't really care for myself .... I care for Eric. I keep saying things need to change but now I am convinced that if they do not I may not be able to go on like this much longer. I have been sticking to the "if you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything" about my Japanese family but this is just too much for me. I was so tired, upset and frustrated that I had too say something. Any ways here are some pictures of Eric and him opening his presents.......

Only in Japan

Japan the only place where dressing like a idiot is a fashion statement. Tonight on the train back to Tokyo there was no lie a man who was dressed in the following; A black knit hat a white based rainbow striped button down shirt a v-neck something another v-neck w/ a pink triangle at the apex with a gray and pink aregiale design a gray sport coat (that did match the gray in the sweater a paisley back pack dark blue denim jeans with gold stitching and to top it all off or bottom it all off .... low cut Chuck Talyor's Converse with with different size & (primary) color spots. The funny thing is in America he would have stuck out like a sore thumb. Here he looks like most others to the untrained eye. I wish I could have gotten my camera out.

Halloween For the Kids

There was also a kids Halloween party and it was a allot more fun for me. Eric, Miku and a bunch of his friends along with some of Brent's students and kids. Brent has a party the next day for his kids classes and I take Eric. This year Satomi came too and so did some of her friends. There were about 20 or so kids and they all had a blast playing games and getting candy. I there is a lot to say about the cute kids in there costumes but why not just check out the pictures instead.

Here is a link to the album so you can check out all the pictures.

Halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year, and of all the American/Western holidays celebrated here I think it is the most excepted. As always my buddy Brent had a big party at his bar. I went as Viagra which I made out of a large piece of card board spray painted blue. Unfortunately I forgot to snap a picture of it before I took it off. It was just too dam big for a bar packed full of people I was smashing into everyone. Here are some pictures.

Not really a lot to say except I came I took pictures and I drank. Allot! Here is a link to the whole album Enjoy! PS if you want copies of the pictures get in touch with Brent and have him tell me what you want.

Training Week 1

It always looks easy when you watch some one else do it... so I finally, after stalling and stalling I started going to Karate last week. I have been meaning to for some time. I know that I am putting on weight again and my 35th birthday is coming soon so I signed up and got going. Since I joined the Marines I was always in pretty good shape and ALWAYS physically capable of getting anything done. Fighting, Surfing, Swimming and what ever else. I could get it done and I always had a good self image when it came to my body. The first shock was when I put on my Geii and went out into the dojo and stood in front of the mirror WTF I look like the friging Micheline Man. Then after 5 or 10 minutes of constant physical exertion I was sweating every where and breathing heavy. Woooow I thought this is not gonna be easy anymore. Second shock came a bit later when I had to spare. I use to have this awesome set of parries and combinations that I just new and had always worked for me. Almost naturally but now I found myself getting frustrated cause I couldn't find my rhythm and get control of my self. Finally the fact that I felt like a flailing fish out of water most of the lesson did not help, and the fact that I was soooooo uncoordinated and had to ( and still do ) be shown the basic moves over and over again was just crushing. The other people in class have been friendly and cool to me so far so I think I am going to stick with it for at least a couple more months. I will update this when I start to get a little better feel for what I am doing. E./
