[tlug] Desktop Wars Query

So we were all talking about our desktop preferences and what we love/hate. I use KDE 3.5. I started on Gnome and tried XFCE and am thinking of going back to that. On my next install but it will have to have KDE installed cause of 2 favorite programs konsole and Amarok. To me every thing else is the same cause I use the same set of applications no matter what the desktop is. Firefox, Thunderbird, and Gedit. Allot of people say that KDE has too much eye candy and is to clunky. Not so sure about that. So I thought I would post some shots of my desk top so you can know how I roll. I use virtual desktops ALLOT and my layouts are highly dependent on what is happening in each one. Top right is my main work window. I have a long window for working on different servers and Konsoles tabs help keep the servers separated. In the same window I have my IRC client SCREEN/IRSSI and Gedit open below that to use as a paste buffer and for making notes. Then 2nd and 3rd desktops (clockwise) are pretty simple Thunderbird and Amarok on one and Firefox on the other. Usually they are full screen but here I was just showing off some of my photos. Finally the bottom right is the my 4th desktop and is mostly my personal workspace. Posts to my blog Digg and what ever else I am reading up on and in the konsole my personal servers including the local desktop, in case I need to start a program or grab something from home. I have a tool bar at the top of the screen but it is the absolute smallest it can be and the only icons that it has are running programs and 3 to start my most frequently used programs. I might consider loosing it all together but I like the clock there. I know some people may not set things up that way but really this is how I work and it works well for me. I recently started working on some key bindings to make it quicker to get around but I haven't gotten to any thing that I find really use full. YET. KDE may be a bit of a drag CPU wise but I really pleased with it and I have managed to bend it to my will so it is good for me. Let me know what you think. E./
