A little quiet please!

I run a FTP server out of my house that doubles as my desktop. It is about a 4 year old P4 2.4 GHZ. So when the processor fan started making noise I went looking for a new one.... 4 years in computer parts is like 20 in car parts and 80 in human years....... it is pretty high in dog years too. Needless to say I could not easily find a replacement. Easily is a relative term here in Japan, where nothing is easy. Yes I could have found one.... I just didn't feel like ordering it on line from Kazakhstan or hunting through junk piles in Akihabara. The 3 places that I go for parts didn't have one so I started looking at other options. Jason a fellow former Marine, who I met recently offered me a processor fan that he had extra and it looked as if it would fit. After a night of no sleep due to work and that fan grinding away I got home early enough to take my PC apart and see if it would fit. Unfortunately it was no good. Just a couple of millimeters to long on one side. This was the alternative. I cut the fan that I had on my system out with some with some wire clippers. After that I removed the new fan from the new heat-sink and checked to see if it would fit over my old heat sink that was firmly mounted on the motherboard. It was a close enough fit so I mounted it as best I could and then used some wire ties to secure it on place the rest of the way. I secured it in place and rebooted the machine and heard the sweet music of..... absolutely nothing to my ears. Man was I happy I could finally get some sleep without hearing GRRRRGGGGRRRRR all night. Thanks Jason!
