Typhoon!

typhoon from the radar
There was a little typhoon in the area today. It caused massive train delays and other problems.

I was able to make it work w/o a incident on time, but most of my co-workers live much farther from the office then I do and most of them were about 2 - 3 hours late.

On my way to the data center I snapped this shot of the bamboo trees outside the office. It was pretty windy I guess.

Rumble in the Ricebowl

Wow rugby is getting good. This weekend we faced Baku & Clover (you can read more about it here)  and came away with a win thanks to a pair of tries from Toby and some hard grinding work from the forward pack and some good kick n chase by the back line. There was a bunch of other stuff going on at the same time. It was Chris "Feral" Fearon's  last game with us and I brought Miku my niece to the game with me. So I was a little stressed and hurried and did not have time to enjoy normal post match activities...... like beer. Still the match was good, I had a good couple of runs and am perfecting my smashing through technique with true Matt Downer style.
Rumble in the Ricebowl
Finally the Rumble in the Ricebowl is starting to heat up. The rumble in the rice bowl will be Australia against New Zealand in one of the last Bledsoe cup matches of the season. My team The Tokyo Gaijin Rugby Football Club is using this as a fund raiser, by selling promotional T-shirts and Polos. Check out the site, you can even buy t-shirts right there on line.

Hollywood

Welcome to 2009, where on October 16th my last and possibly most fondest child hood memory of my Aunts reading Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" to me, will be raped by Hollywood in... it's quest to ruin everything I thought was great as a child.

I read this story to my son for almost 3 years straight at least 2 times a week. I love this book. I have this book almost completely memorized. I am sure that I own at least 3 copies of this book, one that my Aunts (Aunt Lyn my godmother) gave me as a child, that my mother then gave to her when she had children that she gave back to me, when Eric was born.

It is redeeming to see that Spike Jonze is directing it and really seems to care about makeing a film that doesn't suck.

The people who made Transformers, Terminator 4 and G.I. Joe should all go see this movie. If the movie is 1/2 as good as the trailer they might learn something.

Hollywood please stop making movies that suck, just because you think I am a 30 something guy with kids who will say "AUGH COOL I use to watch/read/play with that when I was Eric's age. Eric will love it!"

Here is the trailer, enjoy it, I did.

Last Nice Weekend

I think this will be the last really nice weekend we will get for a while.  The weather here is always nice, but after about September 20th it starts to get cooler and rains a bit more than necessary.

Eric and I headed out to Futuko-Shinichi for rugby practice. We were a little late, but we brought along some food I made the night before for a BBQ, and a screen from the BBQ at my house.

Practice was pretty brutal, work stress has the muscles in my back in knots making it hard to breathe when I run ect.... whine whine whinge cry cry cry.....my age is really starting to show.

After our last game of touch where I surprised my shorter opposition by kicking it over their heads, running around them then grabbing the ball and putting it down for the try. I retiered for the day.

We were having the BBQ for Tommy to celebrate him leaving for college in England. Good Luck Tommy!

It was almost dark when we left and Eric and I did not get back to Kichijoji till almost 8.
We stopped along the way so Eric could take his photo with a ceremonial drum.

When we got home I took a shower and went to bed immediately, next to me in bed was poor little Anna-chan who had a fever all day. She woke up several times durring the night and I did my best to make her comfortable. I hope she gets better soon.
