1st Rugby Practice of the Season

1st Practice. Well actually it was the 2nd but first for me of the season. I woke up early and but felt keen to get out and play. Like always I underestimated how long it would take to get myself and Eric going. Eventually we got on our way with help from Satomi driving us to the station. A quick 40 minute trip where Eric was particularly well behaved, and we arrived at the station out side the practice area right on time. We walked down to the practice area, and immediately HEAT fear kicked in. I changed into my boots and drank some more water and tried to get ready. I could feel how hot it was and I was fearing just plain old passing out. That would be embarrassing. Man we started out "warming up" if that was really necessary I was already sweating then did some stretching. Then it was time for our fitness exercises, SUICIDES. In the heat that is what it amounted to. 5 cones spread equal distances apart. You started at one line and then ran to 2nd line turned around and ran to the first. When you got to the first you turned and ran out to the 3rd and so on. We did that 6 times each time throwing in some variations like you had to land flat on your stomach, get up and run back to start line. When we hit the first line I flopped down on my stomach even though I was only in contact with the ground for a second I could feel the heat radiating off the hard crisp brown grass. I knew the fun for the day was over. On our last one one we only had to touch the ground with our hand and I felt a surge of energy as I made my way back from the third cone and really started to pour it on. I past a couple of guys, OK maybe one or 2 who had been in front of me all during all previous exercises and felt pretty good. I touched the start line for my final run out to the 4th cone and poured it on a little more. I bent down to touch the last line and that is where things started to go wrong. I came back up dizzy but OK and kept running I past the 3rd and 2nd cone but with less then 10 meters to go my consciousness was fading. I was seeing stars sort of and felt very unsteady. I could tell if I didn't come to almost a complete halt I was gonna hit the dirt. I kept a running stance but was almost motionless as I got my brain back in control of my body.

Mai-Chan

Mai-chans Onagiri (Rice Ball) Mean while while no one was paying attention to poor Mai-chan. I had left my bag open while we were playing and there was a onagiri (Rice ball w/Salmon) in it that little Mai-chan found. Mai is just barely one year old and for her to see that get open and unwrapped and then eat as much as she did was pretty funny. What was even funnier was the fact that she had it all over her face, feet, legs and hands. Here is a picture of her with Eric also. He really likes her.

Keith the Uber gamer

Eric & I went over to my buddy Mauros house to have some lunch and get some help working on our team rugby site. Our friend Keith was also there and so was his wife. We all sat down to a delicious meal prepared by Mizue & Kawarie, Mauro and Keiths wifes respectively. After Mauro and I fixed the site we all sat down to play some games on the PS2. At one point a impromptu to tournament broke out of Medle of Honor Heros. Kieth and Muaro battled each winning a game and then I got in there against Keith and got SLAUGHTERED. It wasn't even a good game. It was more like a turkey shoot and I was the turkey. Eric was getting restless and really wanted to play so I let him. Medal of Honor is not the kinda game I recommend letting your 5 y.o. play, but he had played a few minutes of it on my psp and had the general idea. "Shoot da guys" Eric and Kieth started to play and Eric concentrated on the game. His face was pinched in determination as he struggled to understand what was going on but every time just as he was starting to get the hang of things. BLAM there was Kieth the uber gamer there to put a double tap in the back of his head, or throw a grenade or whatever. NO MERCY was Keith's battle cry and he certainly showcased his AMAZING skill and talent on Eric beating him with a mind numbing 30+ shots to 1. (Thanks Mauro for helping him win that 1.) Later on the train ride home Eric was very quite. I asked him "Whats wrong buddy?" "Dada Kieth is really strong." I thought about it and Kieth is a black belt in Judo and a pretty tough guy. "Ya he is he is a black belt in Judo."

Fireworks YEAH!

Fireworks are fun but allot of work. Eric and I went to fireworks with some of the people from my Japanese school. It was good for me but it was better for Eric. He had a blast. To start out it was on the other side of Tokyo so first step was a 50 minute train ride across Tokyo. That wasn't so bad. Some one said it said it was a 25 minute walk to where the fireworks were. I thought no way. There is no place in Tokyo that is 25 minutes from a station. I was right it was not 25 minutes IT WAS 35. It was another hot day so even as I walked along a while sipping on a beer the heat was stifling. We finally got to the place to watch fireworks and there were a few people there. Eric found a spot to watch the fireworks but I shagged him down after I realized what he was up to. Finally the fireworks started and then Eric went crazy. HE was dancing around and screaming. Little did he realize that the fire works would last 90 minutes. After about 30 minutes he settled down and watched the fireworks.
